Dutch Brewer Claims World’s Strongest Beer Title

The battle for the world’s strongest beer continues to rage on, as a Dutch brewer just stole the title from BrewDog. Last week, BrewDog released 7 bottles of a beer called “The End of History,” which for the week, was the World’s Strongest Beer. But Nijboer’s Almere-based brewery, ‘t Koelschip (The Refrigerated Ship), has answered with its “Start the Future” beer.

The “Start the Future” beer is 60 percent alcohol by volume (120 proof) which beats out BrewDog’s “The End of History” ale, which was 55% ABV.

“You don’t drink it like beer, but like a cocktail — in a nice world's strongest beerwhisky or cognac glass,” brewer Jan Nijboer.

The beer sells in a 1/3 liter bottle for about $45 each.

The Vancouver Sun reports that the Refrigerated Ship brewery previously held the title of the world’s strongest beer with a beer called Oblix, which was 45% ABV. Oblix beat out BrewDog’s “Sink the Bismark” beer, but BrewDog fired back with “The End of Hstory” last week.

“It has become a little competition,” Nijboer said. “You should see it as a joke.”

Nijboer’s “Start the Future” beer is currently the world’s strongest beer, but I wouldn’t be surprised if BrewDog has something, well, brewing.
