Beer Related Stories

The Professor will provide an occasional odd story: recent or from history, related to beer. This one is from http://ibnlive.in.com. The Professor hopes it was a beer at least worthy enough of losing ones job over.

(Motorcycle hearse: not necessarily the hearse used by the driver in the story.)

Bogota: A dead man’s family had to wait for hours at a cemetery in Colombia, as the hearse driver went to have a few beers, leaving the vehicle carrying the corpse outside a motel.

Club Update: Music City Brewers

Nashville, TN area

Worm’s Way will be moving in January, 2010 to 901 Main Street in East Nashville? The actual opening date is TBA, but we will be operating out of the East Nashville location by February 1, 2010 at the latest. The building used to be a furniture store called Urban Décor. We can’t wait to be more centrally located! Here is a link.
Thanks,
Geoff

Hello All,

The time is near for this year’s MCB Christmas party. Unfortunately, we do not have a venue to speak of. I am writing to see if anyone in the club is willing to host the party this year. Please let me know ASAP if you are willing to host. The usual 2nd Saturday of the month is not good for December with the Chattanooga competition going on that day.

It’s time for another great beer tasting! This time, we’ll be having the tasting at Cool Springs Brewery — Williamson County’s first brewery. The tasting is at 11 am Saturday November 28th. Bring something rare or Winter Seasonal for entry, — or you can chip in for the food and appetizers which we’ll purchase from CSB which has fantastic food. CSB has five of their beers on tap (as well as a few others including Yazoo Pale Ale).

BA Fall Tasting
When: Saturday 11am November 28 (until)
Where: Cool Springs Brewery
600A Frazier Drive
Suite 135
615-503-9626

The Brewery is a block off Cool Springs Boulevard near Thorough Bred Theater. It is next to Sperry’s Restaurant and in the same building as Calypso Cafe.

Should be a blast!

I’m planning to bring a 2009 Sexual Chocolate. 🙂

Cheers,
Timothy

Beer Profile: Biere du Boucanier

Profiled by Ken Carman

This is a Flemish Red Ale, with lots of foam; both visual and on the tongue. It is red; as advertised, and both slightly sour, slightly sweet: as expected. There seems to be a light caramel malt sense here. Another 7% “and you’d never know it” beer. Not quite as complex as the style guidelines call for aroma-wise, but it is on the light side taste-wise.. Could use more aroma; just a light sweet fruitiness to the nose. It is red, though not quite as “deep” red as required. Not a perfect example, but enjoyable.

Without intent, I have collected well over 1,000 beer bottles since the early 70s. When something finally had to be done about the cheap paneling in this old modular, I had a choice. Tear down the walls while, oh, so carefully, replacing the often rotted 1X3s. Or: cover them with… The Bottle Collection.

It’s in the Can

Even Wiki gets into the act?

It’s a first-year event, but Buckbean Brewing Company owners Douglas Booth and Daniel Kahn of Reno already are able to boast of having what is likely the largest canned beer festival in the world.

The event, Canfest: Reno International Canned Beer Festival, will be Oct. 23 at the Grand Sierra Resort and Casino, and it will feature beer sampling and judging with one big rule: Every beer must come straight from a can.

When they were producing Canfest, the Buckbean owners decided to implement the cans-only rule primarily to tear down the myth that great beer comes only from bottles.

“If good beer goes into a can, you get good beer out of the can,” said Kahn, the Buckbean brewmaster. “That’s the problem with people’s perception. They’ve seen so much bad beer put into a can that when the bad beer comes out, they blame it on the can instead of the beer.”
