He’Brew Helps Customers Build Beer Menorahs

This beer menorah, uploaded by Ben Shaevitz on Shmaltz Brewing Co.’s Facebook page, is part of a new He’Brew Vertical Jewbelation beer set.

On the sixth night of Hanukkah, I’m really regretting not asking my loved ones to gift me one of these: a He’Brew Vertical Jewbelation set that doubles as a menorah.

The set includes eight 12-ounce bottles of beer — one of each of the past six years’ Jewbelation releases (6), this year’s release (1) and a new blend of all of them that was aged in Sazerac rye whiskey barrels (1) — plus an empty bottle to hold the “shamash,” or middle candle.

The He’Brew Jewbelation series, brewed in New York for San Francisco’s Shmaltz Brewing Co., began with Jewbelation 8, which contained eight malts, eight hops and 8 percent alcohol by volume. Each year’s new release ups the malts, hops and alcohol by one, meaning this year’s Jewbelation 14 (also sold separately from the gift set in 22-ounce bottles) has 14 malts — including flaked quinoa — 14 hops and 14 percent ABV.

As the nights of Hanukkah go on, people have been posting pictures of their He’Brew beer menorahs on the Shmaltz Facebook page while some reviewers have been dutifully going through the series one beer per night.

The Vertical Jewbelation sets, which also come with a beer glass and Hanukkah candles, are available for about $27-$30 at most places that sell He’Brew beers.
